(EAST ORANGE/ORANGE, NJ) - On this last day of Women’s History Month, before the clock strikes 12 midnight, TAPinto wanted to pause from all the Coronavirus news and take the time to highlight women in our communities making a difference.
In honor of the many s-heroes, we have created our second annual “East Orange and Orange 100 Women of Power and Progress” list.
The criteria used to select each woman was as follows: 1. The woman must be a resident of or work in East Orange or Orange. 2. She must use her life and platforms by way of career, volunteerism, social media, etc. to promote positivity, unity, and the uplifting of other women within one of the two municipalities and beyond.

CUMBERLAND – The final 2021-2022 school district calendar approved by the School Committee last week keeps religious holidays as days off.
Chairwoman Karen Freedman, whose family celebrates Jewish holidays, said she believes the district should start considering making celebration of religious holidays a personal choice and not including them on the secular school calendar, as many other districts have done across the country.
Freedman and Amy Rogalski were the two no votes on approving the calendar, as it passed 5-2.
Also part of the finalized calendar presented by Supt. Bob Mitchell is moving two professional days originally scheduled near the Aug. 30 start of school to later in September and October, making for a more consistent first few days of the next school year.

Prior to joining the Prime Bank, Rashid was additional managing director at Eastern Bank Ltd.
In his eight-year stint, he is “lauded for his leadership role in achieving balance sheet growth and driving the transformation journey of the Eastern Bank”, according to a statement from his new office.
Rashid brings in more than 27 years of experience in banking industry both in local and multinational banks in senior positions in corporate, risk management, SME and retail banking. He started his career with Credit Agricole Indosuez and later moved to HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank in different senior leadership positions.
Two leaks led to an overnight water outage last week in Cumberland.
Crews began repairs around 10 p.m. Feb 2, and were done by noon the next day. Leaks occured in a field between Main and Carl Streets and along North Broad Street.

Here is a look back to some of the events happening in and around Cumberland in years past:
On Feb. 13, 2011, the Cumberland area was shocked by the announcement that the body of a murder victim had been found along Howell Road. It brought local and regional news crews to the area. There were a lot of questions in residents’ minds at the time. Most of the questions remain unanswered.
