In a season full of surprises, a pair of favorites punched their tickets to the NCAA Tournament last weekend, with UNC winning the ACC and Northwestern taking the Big Ten crown. Outside of the Power Five, High Point secured its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier by winning the Big South.
But donât use a pen if youâre trying Bracketology at home. Thereâs still plenty up in the air. St. Joe s shook things up by downing nationally-ranked Richmond in the A-10 semis last weekend, opening the door for UMass to earn its bid to the tournament and leaving the Spiders to sweat it out, hoping for an at-large bid on Sunday.

Graduate student Kerri Clayton and Arizona State (8-5, 5-4 Pac-12) made its best attempt at a comeback on Friday, but it was too little, too late. USC (9-6, 6-3) prevailed 16-14 over the Sun Devils.
Headed into the final 11 minutes of the game, Arizona State found itself down by seven. Aided by a 7-2 run, the Sun Devils cut the deficit to two, but simply ran out of time. Clayton, one of the seniors honored at Arizona State’s final home game of the regular season, led the comeback attempt and finished with a team-high five goals.

No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Northwestern have played a cut above the rest of the field this year. The rest of Division I lacrosse is up for grabs, with multiple teams in the sport’s traditional powerhouse conferences, the ACC and Big Ten, jockeying for positioning in the standings.
Last week, Boston College topped a Notre Dame team that took UNC to the brink. The Eagles will close the season at Syracuse in what could be the matchup of the weekend. In the Big Ten, Rutgers upset Maryland, and Johns Hopkins topped Penn State.

Twice in the second half, USC midfielder Katie Ramsay drove inside the arc and put the ball in the back of the net. As the Trojans celebrated, an official pulled out a whistle and said just two words: “No goal.” Ramsay had stepped on the crease before shooting, nullifying both goals. It felt as if everything was going right for the Bears that is, until it didn’t.
After going up early, Cal relinquished leads in a 12-11 overtime loss at USC and an 11-7 letdown at Arizona State. In a weekend that saw the Bears extend their losing streak to a season-worst six games, the team fell victim to second-half offensive explosions during comebacks by the two Pac-12 powerhouses it faced.
