HVCC signs new transfer agreement with SUNY Cortland


TROY, N.Y. — With some of the finest athletic facilities of any two-year school in the country, Hudson Valley Community College has also long been an ideal place to be a student-athlete but it’s also known as a great place to start an education in the physical education and exercise science fields.
Now, students pursuing those particular fields have another transfer option when they complete their associate degree at Hudson Valley. The college recently signed a transfer articulation agreement with SUNY Cortland, which offers undergraduate degree programs in Physical Education and graduate programs in Physical Education and Physical Education Leadership. ....

One Dead in Suspicious House Fire in Cortland County


Authorities say a man s body was discovered after fire damaged a residence in a small town in Cortland County.
According to New York State Police, the man has been identified as 65-year-old Gary Stensland. He lived in the home on Route 13 in the town of Cuyler where the blaze occurred.
The fire was reported around 10 a.m. Monday. The scene is located near Crains Mills Road, northeast of the city of Cortland.
The Cuyler and Truxton fire departments initially responded to the call. Firefighters from other departments in Cortland and Madison counties assisted.
State police described the blaze as suspicious but did not elaborate. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was being assisted by the Forensic Identification Unit and state fire investigators. ....

B.U. COVID Infection Rate Slows

The SUNY COVID tracker March 16 still reports 52 students newly diagnosed over the past seven days for a .75% infection rate.  The real-time tracker said there had been 16 new cases identified in students in the past three days but no new infections in staff. There were 2 new positive tests for employees over the past seven days.
University officials had said at one point they were working with some area hotels for additional quarantine beds.

Broome County has blamed the B.U. cases for driving the overall county new infection rates for the past couple of weeks.  Yesterday, Broome announced 60 new cases for a total of 15-thousand, 485.  There have been 323 deaths. ....

Ohio state rep. wants to rename state park after former President Donald Trump

State Rep. Mike Loychik, R-Bazetta, announced he will be introducing a bill that aims to rename Mosquito Lake State Park in Cortland, Ohio after the former president to “recognize the triumphs Trump brought over the last four years to this great nation and the Buckeye state.”
With more than 7,000 acres of surface area, Mosquito Lake is one of the largest lakes in Ohio and the surrounding parkland covers 2,483 acres of woodlands and marshes.
“This enthusiasm for our former president was also historic throughout the state of Ohio last November as he pushed for initiatives and policies that was very well-received with my constituency and the state, Loychik said in a statement. I will soon be introducing this bill to recognize the triumphs Trump brought over the last four years to this great nation and the Buckeye state. ....
