Work to begin on premier pool upgrade

Work will start next week on the full rebuild of Leisurelink‘s 50-metre swimming pool. The Council has awarded a contract for the major construction project to AW Nicholson Pty Ltd. The contract, worth $4,708,099 (excluding GST), will see AW Nicholson demolish the existing pool and replace it with a tiled 50-metre concrete pool. Improvements will also be made to the waterslide, splash park pumps and water supply. Date Time City celebrates local swimmers’ national achievements The City is celebrating the incredible achievements of Geelong Swimming Club athlete Hayley Mackinder and her peers, following stellar performances at the 2021 Australian Age Swimming Championships. Competing recently in the Gold Coast, Hayley rewrote the record books by breaking a 26-year-old Australian Age Record in the heats for the Women’s 13-years 100m breaststroke. Hayley’s time came in at 1:11.66, with the previous record of 1:12.10 set in 1995 by World Short Course champion Kirsty Ellem. To top off a great start to the championships, Hayley went on to win gold in the 100m breaststroke while also qualifying for the Olympic trials in June this year.
