FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. Ronna McDaniel, an ally of President Trump, was re-elected the Republican National Committee chairwoman as the party weighs its future after losing control of the White House and both chambers of Congress in the past two years.
Her re-election comes at the end of a week in which the GOP lost control of the Senate in the new Congress and as a Trump-inspired mob attacked the Capitol as lawmakers were gathered to certify his election loss.
Ms. McDaniel condemned the violence in remarks Friday but made no mention of Mr. Trump’s role in encouraging his supporters to go to the Capitol to try to overturn the November election.

Tommy Hicks Jr. was elected Republican National Committee co-chairman, a sign that President Trump s influence inside the national party has not waned since losing to President-elect Joe Biden Nov. 3 and being blamed for inciting a siege of the U.S. Capitol just this week.
With the Trump-endorsed Ronna McDaniel elected unanimously to a third term as RNC chairwoman on Friday, the battle for co-chairman was considered a proxy battle for how much influence Trump would have over the apparatus of the Republican Party after he leaves office Jan. 20. Some Republicans thought Hicks Jr. might lose to one of his three opponents in an effort to ensure the RNC maintained some independence from Trump as the party looked ahead to the 2022 midterm elections and the 2024 presidential primary.
