The Diablo Fire was fully contained Sunday afternoon.
Crews fully contained a brush fire hours after it flared up in eastern Contra Costa County on Sunday morning, while a huge blaze in Northern California continued to grow even as firefighters made progress slowing it down.
The Diablo Fire was reported at about 9:24 a.m. Sunday near Vasco Road and Camino Diablo south of Brentwood, said George Huang, assistant chief of Cal Fire’s Santa Clara Unit. By early afternoon, the blaze had consumed 128 acres of mostly grassland prompting a response that included aircraft, bulldozers and more than 300 fire personnel from Cal Fire as well as Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
