SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A 71-year-old hiker was rescued from San Ysidro Trail Sunday after becoming distressed from the heat.
Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue responded to the woman around 12 p.m. along with Montecito Fire and AMR.
Crews said they located the hiker about half a mile down from the top of East Camino Cielo. The hiker told responders she had become distressed in the heat and was unable to continue hiking.
Montecito Fire sent teams from the trailhead while Search and Rescue responded from the top down. After a 20-minute hike the first Search and Rescue team reportedly found the hiker and began giving her electrolytes, water and shade.
Injured hiker airlifted from West Camino Cielo near Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - An injured hiker was hoisted by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on Saturday after a bad fall off West Camino Cielo near Santa Barbara.
SB County Fire said they were called to the area west of Highway 154 around 1:23 p.m.
There, they found a woman in her 30s who had fallen while hiking and suffered a moderate injury to her lower leg.
Crews said they treated and stabilized the woman s injury before hoisting her into SB County Air Support Unit Copter 4 and flying her to SB Cottage Hospital for treatment.
MONTECITO, Calif. - Yet another black bear has made an appearance in southern Santa Barbara County.
This large bear was caught on camera roaming through Montecito Thursday night.
The bear even broke into a resident s chicken coop where it proceeded to kill eight of the birds.
“I would like to co-exist with the bear, but not have him eat our chickens. We are trying to do some aversive therapy,” said resident Penellpe Bianchi.
Bianchi said her property sits right next to a local wildlife sanctuary. She said the bear has been spotted before at properties near Miramar Beach.
Several residents also caught a bear on their security cameras wandering through their yards and sheriff s deputies believe this is the same one.
CARPINTERIA, Calif. - Another bear was caught on camera this week in the Santa Barbara area.
A local viewer named German Corona got footage of the black bear running down Highway 192 at Shepard Mesa Road in Carpinteria.
He said it happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
After spotting the bear, Corona said he called the Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office to report it.
In the video, you can see the bear run up to a large Eucalyptus tree off the side of the road and stand against it for a moment before scampering off.
