KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) - The Government Finance Officers Association has presented the Distinguished Budget Award to the City of Kannapolis. This is the 20th consecutive year the City has received this honor.
The award is given to municipalities who publish a budget that is a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and is used as a communications device.
The City of Kannapolis budget document was found to be proficient in those four categories and met 14 mandatory criteria in order to achieve the award.

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - As Cabarrus County Public Library branches return to pre-pandemic operating hours on April 5, staff is looking back at the challenges â and innovations â of the last 12 months with excitement for the future.
March 2020: Library branches, along with many other Cabarrus County facilities, closed their doors to the public and transitioned to a remote workforce. At that point, library staff had to face the indefinite loss of more than 50 regular in-person programs while still working to serve the community.

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - The Cabarrus County Board of Education has unanimously approved a plan allowing middle and high school students to attend school four days a week, starting April 13.
Students will now have the option to attend school in Plan A (four days a week in-person with Fridays remote), or Plan C (full remote learning).
Plan B, the hybrid schedule of two days in-person learning and three remote, will no longer be an option.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Prom is canceled for all Charlotte-Mecklenburg School students.
It’s another blow to high school students.
For the second year in a row, CMS had its milestone end-of-the-year dance called off because of COVID-19. Same goes for Cabarrus County Schools.
As Charlotte-Mecklenburg students handled that news Wednesday night, WBTV we learned in Cabarrus County, some proms will still continue even though the school system officially shut them down weeks ago.
