(Provided photos) Three candidates have thrown their names in the hat to be the next Franklin County Court judge when incumbent Robert G. Main Jr. retires this year. County District Attorney Craig Carriero, a Democrat; Principal Court Attorney Elizabeth Crawford, a Republican; and private practice attorney Peter Dumas, a Republican, recently announced their intentions to run this fall. Petition-gathering begins March 2. The winner of the race would be elected to a 10-year term.

Two arrested in Pike sex offender compliance checks

PITTSFIELD Pike County authorities say more charges are possible after sheriff’s deputies arrested two people on charges related to their sex offender status.
Patrick T.D. Cantwell, 25, of Pleasant Hill was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Sunday on a Pike County warrant accusing him of failing to register as a sex offender and knowingly providing false information as a sex offender.
He was arrested at his house on 150th Avenue after deputies conducted a sex offender compliance check, according to Sheriff David E. Greenwood.
Anchorage could see the coldest temperatures of winter this week
Print article A burst of Arctic air is bringing “bone-chilling cold” to Southcentral Alaska this week, said National Weather Service meteorologist Pam Szatanek. Low temperatures early in the week will be in the minus teens in portions of Anchorage, Szatanek said, the chilliest yet in the season. The cold is expected to last through the week. “There’s a 0% chance that it’ll get above freezing in the next five days,” Szatanek said.
Cold air returning this weekend continuing into early next week. Bundle up! Along the Kenai Peninsula, Szatanek said, temperatures could drop to 10 below zero throughout the week.
