‘Lights on North Park’
Support small businesses by participating in “Lights on North Park,” a symbolic gesture organized by North Park Main Street. Residents, visitors and business owners are encouraged to meet up at the intersection of 30th Street and University Avenue, near the North Park sign, at 7:15 p.m. At sunset, everyone will raise their cell phone lights to brighten the neighborhood and show solidarity for North Park businesses that have faced a challenging year due to COVID-19. In April, before any of us had an inkling of just what kind of year 2020 was going to be, James Halliday of A Reason to Survive (ARTS) already had a pretty good idea of what San Diego’s arts and culture organizations would have to do to meet the unknown challenges ahead.
“If you think about silver linings, creativity is what we do,” Halliday said. “We have a responsibility to our own community and to the young people we serve and their families to answer the question, ‘What were you doing during these times?,’ and to show that the role we played was a significant one.”
