They include Laura De Marchi (Volleyball), Owen White (Men’s Basketball), and Cassidy Trotter (Women’s Basketball). The awards are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. All grade-point averages are based on a 4.0 scale. Winners will be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. De Marchi received the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for the second straight year. She led NCAA Division II with 12.72 assists per set while being named the GLIAC Player of the Year, GLIAC Setter of the Year, and to the All-GLIAC First Team. No. 19 Huskies outlast Wildcats 63-49 Courtesy: Michigan Tech Athletics MARQUETTE, Mich. – Using gritty defense and strong play in the fourth quarter, No. 19 Michigan Tech outlasted Northern Michigan 63-49 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball Tuesday evening at Berry Events Center. The Huskies have won nine straight head-to-head meetings against the Wildcats, including a two-game sweep this season. Tech also extended its overall win streak to 11 straight games going back to January 15. Jordan Ludescher led the offense with 21 points and three rebounds. Ludescher shot 7-for-14 from the floor with seven free throws on 10 attempts. Baillie McGirk also played well with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. ABC 10/CW5 Courtesy: Michigan Tech University Athletics BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Ellie Mackay scored 31 points and Michigan Tech used an impressive first quarter to sweep Ferris State 63-55 at Jim Wink Arena Saturday in GLIAC women’s basketball. It was the sixth straight victory for the Huskies and a two-game road sweep over Ferris State. The Huskies opened the game with an impressive 14-0 run and led 22-9 at the end of the first quarter. Over the nearly seven-minute stretch, Mackay scored 10, including a pair of 3-pointers. Ferris State stormed back with a 19-9 run in the second quarter and narrowed the margin to just three points by halftime. Several critical defensive stops late in the fourth quarter and two made free throws by Mackay helped MTU stay ahead and secure the victory. ....
