MCAS Miramar squadron comes home from deployment to pandemic

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Squadron VMFA 323 out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar came home after a 10-month deployment in the Middle East, their homes very different due to the pandemic.
The squadron, nicknamed Death Rattlers, deployed ahead of schedule in May, cutting out time with family they usually have before deployment, to keep the squadron from catching the coronavirus. I don t think anyone s done a deployment quite like this before, Madison Arenchild said. Her fiance is a pilot in the squadron.
Mothers at home alone and spouses distant from friends and family during the pandemic, taking a harder toll during the deployment.
Immigrant students get help from San Diego non-profit during pandemic

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Undocumented students are struggling through the pandemic and a San Diego non-profit is pivoting with them to manage the pressure. In San Diego 1 out of 7 school-aged children have at least one undocumented parent at risk for deportation [or] detainment, Program Director of non-profit Students Without Limits Kevin Scully said.
Scully said the pandemic led to skyrocketing anxiety in undocumented students.
He told stories of parents who lost jobs, they worry a lot about putting food on the table and the essentials, and it trickles down to the kids and they feel that fear, that anxiety.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Midwife is living her dream of opening her own birth center, helping minority women.
We met Nikki Helms in July when her GoFundMe was off the charts, raising more than $121,000.
She had been a licensed midwife for about a year and wanted to open a birth center. Fast forward to December and her dream is coming true.
