WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris has announced the designation of Maryland, and specifically Dorchester County, a major disaster area in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias last year.
We’re told this declaration triggers the release of federal funds to help communities recover from this storm. Eligible entities include the state and local governments among others.
“This is great news for the State of Maryland and my district specifically. Tropical Storm Isaias caused heavy flooding and resulted in extensive damage to parts of Dorchester County. After the initial evaluations of the damage did not yield action from FEMA, I was happy to step in and push for this much needed assistance – which clearly was warranted after further review,” said Congressman Harris in a statement.

Maryland is a famously blue state, but they aren’t entirely bereft of Republicans. The state’s First District is represented by Republican Andy Harris. Unfortunately, Harris now finds himself under investigation by the Capitol Hill Police after a reported incident where he allegedly attempted to bring a gun into the House chambers last week. Unfortunately, the details of the allegation are a bit fuzzy, based largely on the claims of one reporter from HuffPo. And even then, the reporter only goes so far as to say he “believes” the item that set off the metal detectors was a gun. (CBS Baltimore)

MARYLAND- This week the Democratic Central Committees of Maryland’s First Congressional District sent a letter to the Maryland Democratic Congressional delegation in hopes of doing what they said is protecting the integrity of democracy.
“We felt like something needed to be said and it couldn’t be said with just one or two central committees it had to be said by the district as a whole,” Patrick Firth, Chair of Talbot County Democratic Central Committee, said.
Committees I spoke with said after the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol building various leaders of the Republican Party, who many political observers feel instigated the recent siege, should be held accountable, like former President Donald Trump and Congressman Dr. Andy Harris.

Former Maryland state Del. Heather Mizeur on Friday said she is considering a run for Congressman Andy Harris’ seat for what she deemed his “resume of conduct unbecoming.”
“As you know, the events of January 6th made me consider a challenge to Congressman Andy Harris for his role in the treasonous insurrection against our government,” wrote Mizeur in a post she first posted first to a personal Facebook page on Thursday.
She later followed up with a longer, more detailed post to her professional page on Friday.
