Secretary of State responds to Dems lawsuit challenging new election laws

In court filings defending new laws to end Election Day registration and tighten voter ID requirements, the Secretary of State’s office derided the Montana Democratic Party s lawsuit as “a last-ditch effort to do what it couldn’t do at the ballot box or before the Legislature.” That lawsuit, filed in Yellowstone County District Court by the Democrats in April, was amended last month to also challenge a third law that created new restrictions on ballot collection. The motion to dismiss the Democrats’ complaint, filed last week by Republican Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, doesn’t address claims related to that law.

U S , EPA Argue Against Sanctions for Alleged Evidence Destruction in Gold King Mine Lawsuit

Agriculture your username 3 hours ago On Tuesday, the United States and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) responded to requests that it should receive sanctions because of evidence the government allegedly hid relating to the 2015 Gold King Mine release of hazardous substances.  The first motion requesting sanctions was filed on May 4 by the Navajo Nation and New Mexico, two plaintiffs attempting to recover funds they spent in cleaning up the spill. The plaintiffs cited six sources of evidence which were purportedly concealed from the plaintiffs and the court related to documentation from two EPA employees who were on-scene coordinators, Hays Griswold and Steve Way.
