EDINBURGH .-Talbot Rice Gallery and Edinburgh Art Festival announced that a new sound installation by artist Emeka Ogboh (b. 1977, Nigeria) was unveiled at Edinburgh’s Burns Monument. The new public artwork, entitled Song of the Union, co-commissioned by Talbot Rice Gallery and Edinburgh Art Festival, is a response to the ongoing theatre surrounding the UK’s departure from the European Union. On January 29, 2020, as the United Kingdom departed the European Union and as a final gesture of farewell, Members of the European Parliament took to their feet in Brussels, held hands and sang Robert Burns’ “Auld Lang Syne”—a song which has come to represent solidarity, friendship and open doors. Photo: Odell Hussey Photography After being closed for 15 months, the Oakland Museum of California plans to reopen for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic on June 18, with three days of free admission, officials announced Wednesday, May 19. The museum closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak and had initially expected to welcome guests again in the fall. But those reopening plans were aborted when California rolled back to more restricted safety tiers in November after a surge in coronavirus cases.
