âââââââLeaders confirm backing for The Bay
Both Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council have elected new Leaders following recent Annual Meetings, with Councillor Caroline Jackson and Councillor Jonathan Brook becoming new Leaders at Lancaster and South Lakeland respectively.
Despite the changes in leadership all three administrations continue to back The Bay unitary bid, with leaders of Barrow Borough Council, Lancaster City Council and South Lakeland District Council saying a Bay unitary alongside a new North Cumbria authority covering Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland and Eden is the best solution for local communities.
In a joint letter sent today (1 June) to Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Councillor Jackson, Councillor Brook and Barrow Borough Council Leader Councillor Ann Thomson write: The Bay has strong cross party support in each of our local authorities and as the new

In a month of political drama – the Hartlepool by-election, the city mayor contests, the local lockdowns that never were – it was a moment that was all but ignored by much of the media.
When retired headteacher Caroline Jackson was elected leader of Lancaster City Council last week, it registered barely a ripple in Westminster.

A HOUSING crisis is taking hold in Inverclyde as families are forced to live in overcrowded social housing. Greenock councillor Colin Jackson says he has been flooded with calls from residents living in unbearable cramped conditions. The councillor, who represents the poorest ward in the country, says there needs to be major investment in social housing and a commitment to build more three and four bedroom properties. Mr Jackson said: In the last few months I have been contacted by a number of local families who are living in unbearable overcrowded social housing accommodation. Acting on their behalf I have contacted every social landlord in Inverclyde to try and help these families secure proper accommodation.
PLANS for a new playpark in a deprived area of Greenock have been abandoned. A local councillor has today hit out over the fact that children in Broomhill still have nowhere to play in Broomhill despite around £30m being splashed out on regeneration of the estate. Talks took place between River Clyde Homes and council bosses to jointly fund the £180k project. Vacant ground next to Nile Street was earmarked for the £180,000 project - but five years on it remains a wasteland and it has now emerged that the plan has been dropped. Councillor Colin Jackson said: We had talks in the past with RCH, and some of the people involved are still there.
