LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Authorities in Lamar County have released the identity of the man accused of killing his girlfriend and kidnapping her teenage daughter over the weekend.
Sheriff Danny Rigel confirmed Derek Tyrone Crockrum, 27, is being held on charges of murder and kidnapping.
Crockrum is accused of shooting his girlfriend to death at a home on Oak Grove Road on Saturday morning.
Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victim as 37-year-old Faye Cornett.
His alleged killer was his girlfriend s son, according to Hattiesburg Police Department spokesman Ryan Moore.
Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victim as 30-year-old Curtis McGee of Jackson. No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Walgreens at Hardy Street and Weathersby Road.
When officers arrived, McGee was found dead at the scene, Moore said in a news release.
Shortly after, Moore said, 23-year-old Jacquille Graves of Braxton was taken into custody in Petal. He was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Graves was booked into Forrest County Jail.
