ATLANTA â Georgia energy regulators have authorized Georgia Power Co. to move forward with plans to buy 970 megawatts of solar power from five other utilities.
The state Public Service Commission voted unanimously in favor of five power-purchasing agreements Georgia Power intends to pursue during the next couple of years.
The 30-year PPAs are among Georgia Powerâs renewable energy programs the PSC signed off on when it approved the utilityâs 2019 Integrated Resource Plan.
Georgia Power is required to submit an IRP to the commission every three years showing what sources of electrical generation it intends to rely on to meet customer needs during the next 20 years.

Pros, cons for solar farm
By Tim Colliver - tcolliver@aimmediamidwest.com
The Ross County Solar public hearing drew an equal number of those for and against the Greenfield-area solar panel farm project, with 14 individuals offering testimony before the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) Tuesday evening that at times became impassioned.
Ross County Solar, LLC is a proposed 120-megawatt solar electric generating farm to be built in Ross County, across the Highland County/Ross County line and just south of Greenfield.
National Grid Renewables (NGR) is the prime contractor on the project. They hope to build on 1,400 acres of land in Buckskin and Paint townships.
