Lorain County commissioners are facing legal action by Columbia Local Schools Board of Education objecting to three proposed tax incentive financing (TIF) agreements.
On Dec. 10, the commissioners engaged outside counsel in response to the lawsuit filed Nov. 30 by Columbia Schools in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.
The lawsuit asks the court to throw out three TIF agreements, arguing they did not receive proper notice or hold a public hearing and they violate provisions of Ohio Revised Code.

The proposed TIF proposal of 10 years at 75 percent exempts the value of improvements on private property from property taxes to help fund future infrastructure improvements such as roads.
