Eagle County wins awards highlighting team efforts and service to community

Special to the Daily Eagle County Government, Eagle County’s Department of Public Health and Environment, and certain county employees were recognized recently at the 18th Annual Success Awards hosted by the Vail Valley Partnership. The Department of Public Health and Environment was awarded Organization of the Year as well as the Member’s Choice Award. Director Heath Harmon received the Community Impact Award for an Individual (Director of Emergency Management Birch Barron was a finalist). Additionally, Eagle County Government was a finalist for Best Place to Work as well as Community Impact Award for an Organization. During the awards ceremony at the EagleVail Pavilion, Harmon introduced his team and thanked them for their work in preventing the spread of disease during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mountain Recreation's Janet Bartnik, Eddie Campos receive statewide, national recognition

Two Mountain Rec staff members have been recognized for their efforts over the past year: Janet Bartnik, executive director, was recognized by the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association with the President’s Award; and Eddie Campos, marketing and communications manager was listed in the National Parks & Recreation Magazine’s 30 Under 30. Bartnik was recognized with the prestigious President’s Award given at the discretion of the current president of the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association for her leadership in the past year. “[Janet] recognized that the directors of so many agencies throughout the state needed support during the pandemic and [she] provided that support by having directors lean on each other,” CPRA President Justin Perdue said in a news release. “Building on that recognition, [she] made every effort to bring the directors together, doing outreach, facilitating phone calls, fostering that ongoing communication, and in doing those things, provided

Obituary: Adam Lewis Palmer, Sept. 18, 1971-Feb. 1, 2021

Adam Lewis Palmer Adam Lewis Palmer, devoted community servant, husband, father and longtime local of Eagle, Colorado, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2021 at the age of 49. Adam and two friends were caught in a deadly avalanche near Silverton, Colorado, while on a backcountry ski trip. Adam is survived by his father Wayne Palmer, brother Darrell Palmer, wife Kalie Palmer; daughters Montana and Savanna, dog Benny and cats Pua and HeiHei. He is predeceased by his mother Cheryl Lewis Palmer. Adam was born on September 18, 1971, in Lynnwood, Washington. He grew up in Port Orchard, Washington, and lived in Anacortes, Washington and Puyallup, Washington, graduating from Puyallup High School. In college at the University of Washington, he joined the Psi Upsilon fraternity, becoming social chair and forming strong bonds with a special group of guys who remain extremely close to this day. He graduated in 1994 with a degree in Ocean and Fisheries Sciences.
