Advent Christian Camp to hold annual encampment

Read Article MECHANIC FALLS The 132nd annual camp meeting of The Advent Christian Camp Meeting Association is to be held from Sunday to Sunday, July 18-25, at the grounds on Route 121. The camp meeting aims to provide spiritual and physical refreshment through Bible study, worship services and fellowship. The public is welcome to attend services, Bible study, meals and other activities. The Rev. Matt Larkin, director of leadership development for the Advent Christian General Conference, will be the evangelist. He will speak at services at 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday, July 18 to 24, and at the Sunday service at 10 a.m. July 25. His theme for the week, “And Now What?,” focuses on life after the pandemic.

Mary K. Hartz

Mary K. Hartz, 89 of New Oxford passed away peacefully at the Cross Keys Village Brethren Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. Everyone who knew Mary will remember her radiant smile, her welcoming personality, and her love for the Lord, her family and others. Mary was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Hartz, Jr., who passed away at age 88 on June 7, 2018, after celebrating 65 years of marriage. Mary is survived by two sons: Dr. Glenn A. Hartz and wife Pamela of Mansfield, Ohio and Galen E. Hartz and wife Donna Kime Hartz of Bendersville, PA. Two sons were predeceased: infant son, Frank E. Hartz, 1953 and Dr. Gary W. Hartz, 2010 at age 55. Gary is survived by his wife, Teri Wiss. There are three grandchildren: Ezra and Rosa Hartz of Idaho, Andrea and Peter Lombardo, of N.J. and Vanessa and Hank Fagnant of Colorado. There are seven great-grandchildren. Mary has five deceased brothers and five deceased sisters, and there are many living nieces and nephews.

Last surviving Marine of USS Indianapolis dies at age 96

iStock (NEW YORK) The last surviving Marine of the USS Indianapolis, the U.S. Navy ship that sank in July 1945, died this weekend. Edgar Harrell was 96 and lived at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville, Tennessee, the official Facebook page of the ship posted Saturday. Harrell was one of the Indianapolis s 316 members who survived the attack by Japanese forces, waiting for help in shark-infested waters for four days. During his time aboard ship, he helped guard components of the atomic bomb. After the torpedoing, he was a hero amongst his shipmates, the post said. Born on Oct. 10, 1924, in Trigg County, Kentucky, Harrell joined the Marines during World War II and was stationed aboard the USS Indianapolis in the Pacific. Harrell chronicled his experience during the war in a book that he co-authored with his son David. The book was called Out of the Depths.
