Creative Commons license. ### Sascha Hughes-Caley was a little uncertain as she registered with a state website promising to connect volunteers with COVID-19 vaccination clinics that needed help. She had time to volunteer after being laid off from her educational technology job, but she was still caring for her toddler and wasn’t sure she could handle a long shift. Hughes-Caley heard nothing about volunteer opportunities for several weeks, then she was referred to a Santa Clara County organization and asked to fill out paperwork.

This program is part of a larger statewide California Volunteer campaign to boost emergency preparedness in communities experiencing social isolation, poverty, or language barriers, and food insecurities.

Ahead of Earth Day, California Volunteers announces new opportunities for Californians to Take climate action Elizabeth Larson 19 April 2021 Ahead of Earth Day, California Volunteers has announced additional ways Californians can get involved in climate action, through the expansion of the nation’s first statewide Climate Action Corps and the launch of an online volunteer hub to connect Californians with climate-focused opportunities to serve their communities. California Volunteers kicked off recruitment for the Climate Action Corps summer fellowship program, an expansion of the current pilot program. The fellowship will engage 200-plus individuals in a summer of service to support local climate action projects in front-line and low-income communities across the state.
