Gozo Cathedral music archives catalogued

Mro Joseph Grech has just completed a concise visual presentation on the cataloguing of the music archives at the Gozo Cathedral.
The archives consist of two sections – the Cathedral Chapter Collection, with 909 compositions, and the Gauci Collection, with 369 pieces.
Grech compiled a detailed catalogue based on international norms while refining and redoing an inventory initially compiled by Noel D’Anastas in the 1980s with upgrades of additional compositions unearthed since then. This first phase of the project was made possible through the assistance of the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Gozo Ministry.
Copies of both catalogues were presented to archdeacon Mgr Tarcisio Camilleri, Mgr Joseph Gauci and to the Gozo Ministry and Public Library. ....

Sculpture exhibition

Gozitan sculptor Mario Agius is holding an exhibition, Reflections, at the Banca Giuratale, Independence Square, Victoria.
Most of Agius’s sculptures are mainly in olive wood, local weathered limestone, Carrara marble and Gozo hardstone.
Agius (b. 1956) studied sculpture and design with the late artists Anton Agius and Harry Alden and furthered his studies in the UK with sculptor Ian Norbury. His works are in constant dialogue with nature, the sacredness of matter and all the narratives associated with humanity.
The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Gozo Ministry, Xagħra Local Council, Bank of Valletta, Michael Grech Financial Investments Services and GasanMamo Insurance. ....

Gualitanus Choir in Valentine's concert

The Gaulitanus Choir is hosting Serenading Strings, featuring the Gaulitanus String Orchestra, made up of some of the top string players in Malta led by Marcelline Agius, on Sunday.
Colin Attard is conducting and is also the artistic director.
Specifically conceived for Valentine’s Day, the programme will feature a very secular repertoire which includes Elgar’s famous Serenade for Strings.
The concert, supported by the Cultural Heritage Directorate at the Ministry for Gozo, will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, San Lawrenz, on Sunday at 7.30pm.

Gaulitanus Choir holds series of Christmas events

In its bid to bring some festive cheer while adhering to COVID-19 regulations, Gozo’s Gaulitanus Choir recently presented Yuletide Bliss, a mini-series of three varied musical events between Christmas and the New Year.
The first event was held on December 27 at the Sannat parish church. Entitled Strings in Concert, the concert featured the Gaulitanus String Orchestra led by Marcelline Agius and conducted by Colin Attard. The programme included works by Mozart, Jenkins, Rowley, Beethoven and Morricone.
The second event, titled Folk-Inspired: A Violin-Piano Recital, was held on December 29 at the Kempinski San Lawrenz. It featured up-and-coming Gozitan violinist Pierre Louis Attard and Serbian-born pianist Milica Lawrence in a most atypical repertoire consisting of a number of catchy folk-inspired classical works from different countries, including from Malta’s own Alex Vella Gregory and Stephen Attard. ....

Art exhibition at Il-Ħaġar

Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri recently inaugurated an art exhibition at Il-Ħaġar museum, in Victoria, as part of the events organised for Il-Milied f’Għawdex.
PAINtings, by George Scicluna, features around 50 works of various sizes and styles, including still lifes, mostly produced during the past 10 years.
These oils, including those rendered in pencil, mostly feature local places, with a few highlighting overseas places.
An accompanying full-colour book in the Il-Ħaġar GEMS series shows more works and write-ups by J. Farrugia and E.V. Borg.
The exhibition and publication are supported financially by the Cultural Heritage Directorate of the Gozo Ministry. ....
