KUCHING: Two longhouses in Sarawak have been issued compound notices of RM4, 000 each for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) on Gawai eve.
The Sarikei divisional health office issued the compounds to Rumah Lingga at Sungai Selangan in Sarikei and Rumah Thomas Settian at Skim B, Bintangor, for holding the miring (ritual offering) ceremony on May 31. SOP was not observed during the ceremony, the state disaster management committee said in a statement on Wednesday (June 9).
It also said Sarawak reported 419 new cases and three deaths on Wednesday.
This takes the state s cumulative tally to 53, 000 cases with 330 fatalities.
Kuching district had the most cases with 124 while 26 other districts recorded between one and 89 cases each.
The initial findings suggested that one of the compounds in green tea could combat the coronavirus behind Covid-19, said lead author Suresh Mohankumar, who researched during his time at JSS College of Pharmacy in Ooty before taking up his current role at Swansea University Medical School.
