It’s been over 9 months since a Battle Creek mother of two went missing. This Sunday is Easter and falls on what would have been Amber Griffin s 28th birthday.
Earlier this week Battle Creek Police, along with a Michigan State Police trooper and his cadaver search dog, were searching for Amber Griffin. Amber has been missing for 9 months, presumed murdered by her boyfriend, Derek Horton.

Detective Sgt. Case recently told the Battle Creek Enquirer that the latest search effort was the result of a recent tip. It was an area that had previously been searched but to the detective, it was worth double and triple-checking.
The case against a Battle Creek man charged with the felony murder of his longtime girlfriend is proceeding despite not locating a body.
Amber Griffin, a 27-year-old mother of two, was reported missing in June of 2020 by her boyfriend Derek Horton and mother. To date, she has not been located despite numerous attempts to search for her by law enforcement and volunteers.

A preliminary hearing was held on Tuesday in Calhoun County District Court. Five witnesses testified in the virtual hearing. Among those testifying were Amber’s mother, a human resources administrator from Amber’s place of employment, a hardware store owner, and two Battle Creek police officers, according to WOOD. One officer recalled speaking with Horton in the days after Griffin’s disappearance. He said there was a dried liquid resembling blood on several places on a car at their shared home.

Derek Horton filed a missing person s report with the Battle Creek Police Department on June 24, 2020, stating he had last seen his girlfriend Amber Griffin two nights before. BATTLE CREEK, MI Preliminary testimony began Tuesday in the homicide case involving the boyfriend of a missing Battle Creek woman presumed dead.
Derek Depree Horton, 26, was charged June 27 with killing his 27-year-old girlfriend Amber Griffin, who he had reported missing to the Battle Creek police three days earlier. Griffin still has not been found by police or heard from by family members or friends, according to police.
