As preseason practice quickly approaches, (Big Ten media days are Thursday and Friday), I thought it might be interesting to start some position group by position group discussions with a focus on the question, is realistic to expect significant improvement from that position group? It is sad to think that there is not a single position group that I think anyone would argue played well last year. Which position groups can thar realistically change for. I am starting with the offensive side of the ball, because that is the area that I think the most significant improvement is not only possible, but is likely. This first post will focus on the offensive line.

Michigan’s football team closed spring practice with three starters determined along its offensive line.
The Wolverines now enter the summer looking for two more as competition brews to figure out who will protect the quarterback this fall.
There is also plenty of excitement within the Michigan fan base, and program, about freshman early enrollee
J.J. McCarthy, a former four-star, top-50 recruit nationally. J.J. was terrific as a mid-year freshman, and got himself all the way up to No. 2 [on the depth chart], Harbaugh revealed.
And then there is freshman
Dan Villari, who did not appear in a game last season. At 6-4, 227 pounds, Villari is a dual-threat quarterback with a lot of strength. Harbaugh said the Wolverines are experimenting with some of the things they can do with Villari, moving him around and finding a way to get him on the field.
