Ron DeSantis was scheduled to visit Lakeland s Bonnet Springs Park today for a news conference at 10:45 a.m. The news conference has been delayed about a half hour, according to governor s communications staff. DeSantis will appear with Don Eagle, director of the Department of Economic Opportunity, and is expected to discuss a state fund to help clean up Lake Bonnet, the namesake body of water adjacent to the park. Bonnet Springs Park is a former 180-acre railyard and brownfield site. Lakeland developer David Bunch and co-developer Bill Tinsley, a former city parks director, purchased the site in 2015 with help of friends and Lakeland philanthropists Barney and Carol Jenkins Barnett, daughter of the late Publix founder George W. Jenkins.
