As critical age studies scholars, we deplore the negative attention older adults are receiving, when they should be seen as enriching our society and culture. We continue to search for different and better stories that highlight older adults volunteering at vaccine clinics, caring for their grandchildren so that parents can work and fighting back against damaging stereotypes. Lately, though, as vaccine rollouts put older people first, news stories are changing. City Council Discusses Planned Projects, Grants

Hillsboro City Council To Meet Tuesday Evening

Share The Hillsboro City Council will meet in a regular session Tuesday, April 20, at 6 p.m. A resolution authorizing an advance funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project is on the agenda. The council will also consider the submission of a Community Development Block Grant application to the Texas Department of Agriculture. A resolution denying a rate request from Oncor Electric will be discussed. A replat of 200 Mark Street is also on the agenda for consideration. The council will consider a request from Carroll Estes to close portions of Elm Street for the Elm Street Rod Run June 25-26.

Registration Underway For 10th Rod Run

Share Registration Underway For 10th Rod Run After being postponed last year, the Elm Street Rod Run will be back in 2021, and pre-registration and vendor sign-ups are currently underway. The 10th annual classic car show will be held Saturday, June 26. There will also be a Friday night, June 25, cruise-in with entertainment at 7:30 p.m. The first 200 entrants will receive free t-shirts, and all entrants will receive free passes to Roadside America Museum at 212 East Elm Street. Pre-registration can be completed at roadsideamericatx.com. Cost is $25 for early registration and $30 on show day. All vehicles are welcome, including rods, customs, classics, trucks, bikes and rats. Vendors can contact organizer Carroll Estes at 972-291-2958 or ceclas sics@sbcglobal.net to sign up.
