One of Australia’s best race mares Arcadia Queen failed to sell when she was put through the ring at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.
The Bob Peters-owned mare, a three-time Group 1 winning daughter of Pierro, was regarded as the headline act of the sale but an online bid of $3.4 million wasn’t enough for the West Australian-based owner to part with his prized five-year-old, the winner of eight from 16 with career earnings of more than $3.9 million.

Racing industry administrators have emphasised the importance of traceability of horses after their racing career is over, with an “elongated duty of care” noted.
Several delegates from around the world converged earlier in the week for the second session of the International Forum for the Aftercare of Racehorses (IFAR) 2021 virtual series. It was moderated by Australia-based broadcaster Caroline Searcy.
All four speakers discussed the traceability measures that their organizations use or have developed to keep track of racehorses throughout their lives. Additionally, they suggested that having a dedicated individual or resource to contact through an administrative or regulatory body was an instrumental part of driving change toward prioritizing aftercare.

The fifth annual International Forum for the Aftercare of Racehorses (IFAR) is to be held this year over four virtual sessions starting from April 6.
Topics and speakers have been announced for each of the webinars, which will start at noon (GMT) and run for about an hour.
The forum will kick off with “Aftercare in 2021” on April 6, with an update on IFAR’s activities from Chair Di Arbuthnot and feature perspectives from Jessica Harrington, trainer (IRE); Tik Maynard, eventer (US); Graham and Anita Motion, owners, Herringswell Stable (US); and Nemone Routh, racing office manager, Aga Khan Studs (FR). The discussion will be moderated by international racing broadcaster Nick Luck (UK).
