West Shore Educational Service District (ESD) is looking for voters to renew their special education millage at the May 4 election.
“Voters in Mason, Lake, and Oceana county will have the opportunity to decide whether or not the plan to continue to support a one mill levy for students in special education across the three county area,” said Dr. Jason Jeffrey, the West Shore Educational Service District Superintendent. “One in six students who attend school here qualify for special education, which is about 1,400 students in total.”
Mason County Eastern has 37 students who have special needs and about 100 students in their district who utilize their center-based programs.

ZEELAND, MI – Becoming superintendent of Zeeland Public Schools wasn’t always Brandi-Lyn Mendham’s plan. She said her current role as the district’s assistant superintendent of curriculum is her “dream job.”
But when Zeeland Superintendent Cal De Kuiper announced he would retire at the end of this school year and the position opened up, Mendham said she felt an urge to put her name in the running for the job.
ZEELAND Zeeland Public Schools has found its next superintendent. The school board voted unanimously Friday evening to enter into contract negotiations with current Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Brandi-Lyn Mendham for the position.
Mendham has worked at ZPS since 2014 and will be the first woman to serve as superintendent in the district.
“It s an incredible honor to be named superintendent of ZPS,” Mendham said. “I m humbled, honored and proud to lead such an amazing team and serve a dedicated (board) as we work collaboratively to continue to do what s best for the children in our community.
“Being the first female superintendent in the district s history does have significant meaning to me, particularly as I think about my own daughters. It s a responsibility I don t take lightly as I work hard to honor the role.
