The college made the announcement Thursday in a news release.
Dyersburg State says its first female and third president will be retiring effective Dec. 31, 2021.
In a letter of intent, Bowyer stated:
“I have enjoyed my various positions since 1972, but in particular my work at DSCC has been a labor of love. I grew up in rural western Illinois, a region very similar to the service area of DSCC. Since the start I have felt at home here, and could identify with the problems facing this rural region. As you can imagine it will be difficult to leave, but I have projects and trips that I have put on hold until I had more free time.”
Campbell will be one of 12 presidents selected to participate in the roundtable discussions.
âI am very honored by being selected for this group of presidents from around the South,â said  Campbell. âOne major benefit from these discussions is that they will permit me to talk to leading presidents of their states and apply new ideas here at Northeast.â
Developed by the Higher Education Research and Development Institute (HERDI-South) and supported by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), this roundtable initiative will consist of monthly, hour-long professional development discussions. The discussions will be held virtually through Zoom and will focus on current and future community college issues, challenges, and finding creative solutions to those challenges. These discussions are representative of a nationwide endeavor supported by the ACUE.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) has announced plans to return to in-person instruction for the upcoming fall semester with classes beginning Aug. 23.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, DSCC managed to stay open to its students by providing them with a flexible instructional model, stated Dr. Karen Bowyer, president of DSCC. Our students persevered and our faculty and staff were diligent in making sure they had what they needed to continue their education. We look forward to bringing faculty and students back this fall to a more normal and traditional college experience.
Students will be able to choose from a modified flexible instructional model that will include in-person classes, a combination of either online instruction or Zoom teleconferencing and in-person instruction, or online instruction using eLearn.

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (WMC) - A local community college is giving back to students in need of food.
Students at Dyersburg State Community College were provided with food during several drive-thru distribution events during the semester.
Donations from faculty and staff of the community college, along with members of the community, made the events possible. “Our students have been faced with many challenges this year including the need for basic necessities such as food. We have made it a priority to make sure that no student goes hungry and that food insecurities are not a barrier to the success of our students.”
