Xagħra basilica will be celebrating the feast of St Joseph on Sunday, May 2. Since this year is the Year of St Joseph, announced by Pope Francis to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St Joseph as patron of the universal Church, archpriest Carmelo Refalo is urging all parishioners to take part in the celebrations in honour of St Joseph.
On Saturday, eve of the feast, celebrations start with the hymn Akatistos at 6pm, followed by sung vespers lead by Mgr Refalo, together with the basilica Chapter and clergy at 6.30pm. Concelebrated Mass, led by vice parish priest Joseph Bajada at 7pm.

Grace Vella had faced setbacks before.
All she ever wanted to do was play football and aged 17 signed for Man City. She played with the likes of Toni Duggan and Nikita Parris, who are all now in the Lioness team.
But a year later her dreams were dashed when she was released. A life away from football beckoned and she decided to concentrate on a psychology degree at the University of Manchester.
The sculptures were awarded points for creativity, technique and message.
And then, the winners were announced.
The Band of Misfit Boys, including Keith Plimi, Dan Berry and Drake Perez, are the winners of the State of Illinois Champions and the People’s Choice Awards for their sculpture “Hooty and the Blowfish.” The team will advance to the 2022 U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Team Quatcschmen, consisting of Peter Hermann, Jack Gerard and Jacob Bailey, took second for their sculpture “Well Done, John,” a tribute to former Rockford alderman and Rockford Park District employee John Beck, who died in April.
