Geoffery Wiseman is the first endowed chair of the new Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul. He has had a varied, transprofessional career that embodies the Grace School’s diplomatic approach.
“I myself do not know of any other school of foreign service or school of diplomacy in the U.S. or elsewhere that has this transnational, transprofessional, applied diplomacy approach,” Wiseman said.
The Grace School was established at DePaul in 2019, after an anonymous $20 million gift to the university.
Wiseman brings decades of experience in a range of fields to his position at DePaul, from foreign service to international security and academia.

Like many students, I was excited in the fall to receive my two DePaul masks, courtesy of DePaul’s Division of Enrollment Management, and while I felt a momentary rush of excitement, it quickly faded. I realized soon after that this would not improve my academic experience, nor would it change the financial burden of college that the pandemic had only exacerbated. While this may seem small, this is precisely where DePaul’s enrollment strategy has failed to engage with students and keep them at the university.

Geoffery Wiseman has been appointed the inaugural endowed chair of applied diplomacy for DePaul’s Grace School of Applied Diplomacy, according to a Jan. 11 Newsline release.
The Grace School of Applied Diplomacy initially started as a program, but an anonymous $20 million donation in September 2019 allowed the university to transform it into a school housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
“The Grace School’s singular and unique commitment to building bridges between two domains: the official, state-based world of international diplomacy and the unofficial, non-state world of humanist activism, is impressive,” Wiseman said in a press release. “The prospect of working to further its remarkable, philanthropic founding designed to transform diplomatic studies via an applied diplomacy vision made this an attractive community to join.”
