LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid appears to be in for another busy summer season this year as tourism officials expect a continuation of last year’s rubber-tire travel trend. Lake Placid is almost always busy in the summer. The village and town of North Elba host a variety of large-scale sporting events; it’s in close proximity to the High Peaks Wilderness, popular with hikers; and its Main Street is walkable with a variety of businesses and restaurants. It’s also been a popular vacation destination for generations. Last year, it was unclear if the usual influx of tourists in the summer would still come because of the coronavirus pandemic, and also because the Canadian border was closed to nonessential travel. But in part because Lake Placid is easy for many New Yorkers to drive to, the season was as busy as ever.

(News photo Andy Flynn) LAKE PLACID The I Love BBQ and Music Festival will return to this village after taking last summer off due to the coronavirus pandemic, yet many of the details still have to be worked out. Two things are certain at this point. The festival will move its traditional date from the Fourth of July holiday to Labor Day weekend and its location from the Olympic Speedskating Oval to the North Elba Show Grounds, according to organizer Dmitry Feld.

Jan 12, 2021 Mary Howe Rock, age 86, of Greenwood Street, Lake Placid, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid in Lake Placid. Mrs. Rock was born April 28, 1934, in Keene, the daughter of Daniel Agnes (O’Connel) Howe. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Agnes Cemetery, Sentinel Road, Lake Placid. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shipman Youth Center, 61 Cummings Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. The M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
