Chester city centre thriving as Covid restrictions ease

CHESTER city centre is open for business. As Covid restrictions eased on Monday, April 12, non-essential retailers and a raft of hospitality firms were able to throw their doors open to the public after more than three months of lockdown. And, unlike the last time Chester emerged from a lengthy lockdown in June 2020, visitors have wasted no time in heading to the city to indulge in retail therapy and enjoy food and drink in the outdoors. Chester city centre is open for business, despite the ongoing Northgate Development and Clockwise Chester works. The same restrictions largely apply for visitors – face masks are required inside and social distancing is still in place, while food and drink establishments can only serve customers outside at present.

Clockwise Chester: Nuns Road to shut for remainder of the year | Chester and District Standard

A CITY centre road will close at the end of the month and not reopen for the remainder of the year due to the ongoing Chester Clockwise scheme. Nuns Road is to shut on Monday, March 29 as part of the current works in the city to install a new surface rainwater drain. The closure is currently expected to last until January 2022 to allow for construction and operation of a drainage tunnel shaft at the Grosvenor Road junction. As a result, only emergency vehicles will have access to this junction for safety reasons. Access-only routes to Blackfriars, Nuns Road properties, Roomzzz Aparthotel and from the HQ Building/Abode Hotel car park exit will remain open to and from the Watergate Street direction only.
