Deepstar is chasing a hat-trick of wins while the stablemate who beats her every time at trackwork, Black Meteor, is trying to break his maiden at Scone on Tuesday.
Trainer Gary Portelli revealed he has been surprised by the emergence of Deepstar, who is lining up in the Class 2 Handicap (1100m), but frustrated by the near misses of Black Meteor, an entrant for the Maiden (1100m).
Portelli said the inside barrier will give Black Meteor his winning chance after the gelding was narrowly beaten by Miss Barty’s Party at Nowra last start.
