Published on May 3, 2021 11:07am West Block on Parliament Hill (Jolson Lim/iPolitics) B.C.-based cannabis company Tilray is seeking discussions with Health Canada about the rules governing cannabis beverages, as well as equivalencies with other cannabis products, which became legal in Canada in 2019. On Monday, Tilray announced the completion of its deal with Aphria to become “a leading cannabis-focused consumer-packaged-goods company.” According to the news release on the company website, it wants to “have a complete portfolio of cannabis 2.0 products to strengthen its leadership position.” Meanwhile, the Association Québecoise de l’industrie du cannabis is also seeking discussions with the government about topics that include medical-grow licences, additional oversight programs, development of a marketing and branding regime, and the application of excise tax on medical cannabis.

Sask farmers can now apply for spring cash advance program

By Jim Smalley The application period for spring cash advances for farmers is now open. The federal program is administered by the Canola Growers Association. Finance director Dave Gallant says the program offers a cash advance up to one million dollars to farmers, with the first 100 thousand dollars interest free. Gallant says this is the earliest ever period for farmers to apply for cash advances. He says more than 10 thousand Western Canadian farmers take advantage of the federal cash advance program. Funds will be issued on approved advances on April 1st.

The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association is working with Benjamin Howe of Impact Public Affairs to advocate for additional mental health services funding. The Walt Disney Company has hired Justin Burrows of Geopolitics Group to discuss the government’s bid to overhaul Canada’s broadcasting laws (Bill C-10) as well as its proposal to implement a Digital Charter (Bill C-11).
