COVID-19 pandemic leading to increased consultation for alcohol-related gastrointestinal and liver diseases

Brazilian Covid variant more transmissible, could evade immunity With lockdowns becoming a crucial measure to contain COVID-19, people are staying indoors virtually locked away from the outside world. Now, a new study has found an alarming surge in the number of consultations for alcohol-related gastrointestinal (GI) and liver diseases even after lockdowns, suggesting that the world may have developed a drinking problem en masse due to the pandemic. According to the new research, the rise in the number of consultations for alcohol-related diseases continues to remain consistently elevated long after the beginning of the pandemic. Also, the percentage of patients requiring endoscopic interventions has also risen, serving as an indicator of the visible severity of the disease.

Study reveals certain occupations may be linked with heavy drinking

Study reveals certain occupations may be linked with heavy drinking ANI | Updated: Feb 24, 2021 09:26 IST Washington [US], February 24 (ANI): A new study has found that working in certain occupations may be associated with a higher likelihood of heavy drinking in people aged 40-69 years. The research was published in the open-access journal BMC Public Health . The findings could be used to help target public health or work-based interventions aiming to reduce heavy drinking, according to the authors. Researchers at the University of Liverpool found that jobs classified as skilled trade occupations, such as construction and manufacturing jobs, were most likely to be associated with heavy drinking. While jobs broadly categorised as professional occupations, for example, doctors and teachers were associated with a lower likelihood of heavy drinking.

Occupational Risk For Heavy Drinking

Occupational Risk For Heavy Drinking by Anjanee Sharma on  February 24, 2021 at 6:05 PM Research from the UK shows that people aged 40-69 years working in certain occupations may have a higher likelihood of heavy drinking. Jobs classified as skilled trade occupations (like construction and manufacturing) were most likely to contribute to heavy drinking. In contrast, those categorized as professional occupations (like medicine and teaching) were associated with a low likelihood of heavy drinking. Andrew Thompson, corresponding author of the study, explained that consuming alcohol heavily increases the risk of physical and mental harm. Understanding which occupations are associated with heavy drinking can help target resources and interventions.

The Pandemic Increased Idaho Alcohol Consumption

The Pandemic Increased Idaho Alcohol Consumption The cause is usually listed as the pandemic.  People are drinking more to relieve stress or the boredom of a lockdown.  One Idaho newspaper columnist does explain it could be worse.  Some states are knocking them back at much higher rates.  Likely because some of those places had even tighter restrictions on the public. If there’s a positive, it drives the barley market in Idaho.  The state is the largest producer in the nation.  Last I looked.  If there’s a positive, it drives the barley market in Idaho. The pandemic also created a few challenges.  I do a lot of cooking with beer.  When I was in college, I worked for a caterer.  He dumped beer into nearly everything he prepared.  Some of the checkout staff at our local groceries tell me cheap beer works just as well as expensive brews when cooking.  Unless you’re looking for a specific flavor.  Scotch ales, which are often stored in oaken barrels once used for w
