UTICA/SHELBY TOWNSHIP/STERLING HEIGHTS The Utica Community Schools district recently received a Future Proud Michigan Explore grant from the Michigan Department of Education to help encourage students who are interested in teaching careers to explore teaching further.
The $10,000 grant will allow the district to expand its Future Educator program in ways such as expanding education career information at the junior high level. The Life Skills program at that level can have more than its current 60 students and specifically concentrate on cultivating interest in secondary education, special education and programs that support

Vaccine distribution makes way to UCS staff

SHELBY TOWNSHIP/UTICA As Utica Community Schools continues to move toward more in-person instruction, district officials are organizing partnerships to increase the availability of vaccines to the Utica Community Schools staff.
Through partnerships with the Sterling Heights Fire Department and Henry Ford Medical Center, district staff have had another opportunity to register to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The district is also working with local pharmacies including Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Meijer and Kroger to increase availability of vaccines for staff and has contacted the Macomb County Health Department to host in-district clinics.
