Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is a common ocular condition. Worldwide, 15% to 20% of the population is affected by some form of allergic disease with ocular symptoms present in about 40% to 60% percent of those patients. More than a mere nuisance for many, ocular allergies have been shown to have an adverse impact on quality of life (QOL). In a cross-sectional study of 220 patients with ocular allergy, 25% had more than five episodes in the previous year and nearly 60% had episodes all year round. There was a significant impairment on overall QOL during an allergic conjunctivitis episode, with 46% rating their disease greater than 6 on a 10-point severity scale.
