At just 17, Abhi Basvoju is working to see more public education equity across Texas.
The Seven Lakes High School senior thrives on economics and numbers and has been studying the impacts of gerrymandering on graduation rates among Texas students.
About two and a half years ago, Basvoju started interning for Eliz Markowitz’s campaign for Texas House District 28. As Markowitz focused partly on education reform and involving youth, Basvoju fit in well.

The Katy Prairie Conservancy has announced it is applying for renewal of accreditation, required every five years, through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. KPC was first accredited in 2016.
The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. A public comment period is now open.
The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs.
Katy ISD board sets May election for Positions 6 and 7

The Katy Independent School District board of trustees voted during its Tuesday, Jan. 19, meeting to hold a general election in May 2021 for Positions 6 and 7.
Election Day will be held on Saturday, May 1, and early voting by personal appearance will run from Monday, April 19, to Tuesday, April 27.
Susan Gesoff currently serves in Position 6, and Dawn Champagne currently serves in Position 7. The election will be for a three-year term.
By Texas law, a candidate for trustee must be a qualified voter according to Election Code Section 141.001. A person interested in running must complete an application for a spot on the ballot by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.
