MarineLab students learn about sea at camp

Ian Koblick is an aquanaut, an underwater explorer recognized as a trailblazer in the 71% of Earth covered by water. Think of him as a visionary wearing a scuba mask. He founded the Marine Resources Development Foundation in 1970 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, conducting research as well as inventing submergible craft and technology to live and work beneath the open seas. Sixteen years later, Koblick heard a calling. He wanted to bring the reefs, mangroves, sea turtles, grouper, manatees, sharks and all the beauty and significance below surface to students. Key Largo’s MarineLab became the educational arm of his non-profit organization, and it’s made an impact even Ian (pronounced YAHN) didn’t envision.

Sunburn — The morning read of what’s hot in Florida politics — 3.2.21 The Legislative Session is here, and Florida Influencers believe that come April 30, Gov. Ron DeSantis will be the big winner. Florida Politics asked the state’s top consultants, lobbyists and political minds who stands to have the best Legislative Session and 43% picked the Governor. His believers include more than half of Republican Influencers, with just 27% of Democrats saying he’s their early favorite. For the minority party, that honor goes to Senate President Wilton Simpson, albeit by a narrow margin. Three in 10 Democrats say he’ll be the clear winner when the hankie drops. More than half of independents believe the same while just 21% of Republicans agree.
