Marine Power Systems (MPS) have confirmed that Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) has been chosen for the deployment of a grid-connected commercial megawatt-scale device. The site in the Basque Country, northern Spain, offers ideal deep water testing conditions and a direct connection into the electricity grid, according to the company.
The berth has been secured and a geotechnical survey of the site is being undertaken.
This represents a significant milestone for Marine Power Systems and the development of their unique and flexible technology as the business moves towards market readiness.
The business said it is already getting significant traction with a number of key partners and customers in the market.
Offshore renewables outfit Marine Power Systems has appointed Martin Carruth as commercial director.
Carruth will be responsible for developing the commercial team and driving the commercialisation strategy across the product portfolio.
Marine Power Systems is commercialising offshore clean energy generation plants that combined floating wind and wave energy technology in deep waters.
Carruth had previously worked at GE Oil and Gas, where he led upstream services development for exploration and appraisal well drilling in emerging markets and also developed the company’s subsea integrity management portfolio.
Most recently he was energy business manager at RINA where he was responsible for growing the regional engineering consultancy business by providing a range of lifecycle activities supporting energy projects.
