he Advocate spoke with Hester Coucke, the curator and a long-term employee of the Art Center in Corvallis who has witnessed many sculptures commissioned and realized around town.
“There is a sculpture [installation] starting at Central Park and ending at the Riverfront along Madison Avenue. A lot of that was the initiative of the Madison Avenue Task Force (MATF). The MATF was a group of volunteers that wanted to create a pedestrian friendly corridor from downtown to campus,” Coucke said, recalling the creation of the visual art and poetry hanging on the brick walls.

Visiting the Maryborough Airport brought back memories for 96-year-old World War Two veteran Peter Groom.
Seeing the work the Maryborough Military Aviation Museum had done in restoring a World War Two CAC Wackett aircraft transported him to his time in the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm when his squadron was based at the Maryborough airfield.
“I was a sub-lieutenant, I trained as a navigator and when I was here in Maryborough, we were flying Sea Otters, for air sea rescue,” Mr Groom said.
“We came here in 1945 and there were about 2000 men here at the airfield at the time … We did a lot of patrols around aircraft carriers while they were practising landings and things like that. We did a lot of VIP travel, taking people to Fraser Island where the commandos were being trained.”

I took a trip to Homer, about 70 miles away from where I live, with some friends to stay in the 'Hobbit House' as we have nick-named it. We took a walk on the Homer City Docks. Although we kept a safe distance while photographing the Sea Otters swimming and sunning themselves, they seemed quite unconcerned with our presence. The diva put on a nice show lol."
