Disney were extremely impressed by the success of Pirates of the Caribbean in 2003. The film made an incredible $650 million on a $150 million budget and even claimed an Academy Award nomination, including a Best Actor nomination. After that, Verbinski was asked to make two more films as soon as he could. The writer and director cobbled together the basis of a script and set off to shoot the two movies, Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, back-to-back.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN fans created a petition calling for Johnny Depp to be reinstated in the Disney franchise last year. Now, the petition is almost at an end with the signatures creeping up on its goal of half a million.

The Pirates of the Caribbean series skyrocketed Johnny Depp’s fame even further when the first film was released in 2003. Depp’s performance as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow left viewers yearning for more - and with good reason. The star loved playing the character, too, as he once explained he could do “anything” as the wily hero. Depp explained: “When I play Captain Jack there is rarely a time when I am not smiling, just being him makes me smile. He can do anything, say anything. Hello love! As cheeky as can be.”

Pirates of the Caribbean has ventured into some weird and wonderful sea-shanty stories so far. Not only did Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) fight the mythical Kraken head-on, but he also worked alongside Blackbeard, and had a sword-fight with Davy Jones. Going forward, could the Disney series borrow some aspects from another of its seafaring franchises?
