Major Japanese airlines, struggling with weak passenger traffic amid the coronavirus pandemic, have started seconding more employees to other companies and organizations.
Beginning in April, Japan Airlines increased the number of seconded employees to about 1,400 per day from 1,000.
According to ANA Holdings Inc., the parent of All Nippon Airways, the cumulative number of seconded ANA group employees since October last year reached about 750, far above its initial plan of some 400.

(Mainichi/In Tanaka) KAGOSHIMA The Kagoshima Prefectural Government announced on Feb. 16 that three female residents in this southwestern Japan prefecture have been infected with a coronavirus variant first found in Britain. It is the first time for an infection with one of the new virus strains to be confirmed in the Kyushu region, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Kagoshima Prefecture said that the three individuals developed symptoms in early February, and are currently hospitalized in local medical institutions. Two of the women have mild symptoms, while one has a moderate case of COVID-19.

Currently, feral cats are caught only in the southwestern part of the island in Kagoshima Prefecture. But starting in fiscal 2021, the ministry will gradually expand the areas where traps are set to cover the entire island by fiscal 2023. It aims to reduce their density throughout the island by fiscal 2027. The ministry reported the plan in a meeting held in the city of Amami on Feb. 3.
