August Adventures offers free museum admission
Children’s Museum of Greater Fall River and the New Bedford Whaling Museum are among the many places your family can enjoy for free this month as the Highland Street Foundation launches its August Adventures program.
Each day throughout the month of August there is one museum, zoo, nature sanctuary or event offered with no admission fee.
August Adventures, modeled after Highland Street’s long-standing Free Fun Fridays program, will provide enriching opportunities for individuals, children and families throughout the state. From children’s museums to art to nature sanctuaries, there is something for everyone.

Friends of Portsmouth Firework show will be bigger this year with food vendors and inflatables for children.
PORTSMOUTH As the summer months continue to heat up, Friends of Portsmouth is hoping to set off the summer with a bang.
After a year of many events canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Friends of Portsmouth have a long list of events scheduled this summer to bring the community together and back to normal.
“We are super excited for this summer and people are itching to get out,” Friends of Portsmouth assistant director, Bryan Smith said. “I really look for a lot of people to come out and enjoy themselves and have fun.”

The Owen Sound Downtown Improvement Area board has approved an “ambitious” plan aimed at rebranding, revitalizing and promoting the city’s downtown.
The 43-page River District Action Plan, presented to city council Monday night, includes nearly a dozen recommendations – from rebranding the downtown as the River District to boosting the safety, comfort and visual appeal of the core.

Each recommendation includes action items, such as considering an expansion of the DIA’s boundaries to include the west side of the Sydenham River and harbour and putting on events to encourage people to come downtown.
