Oregon City School Board Chair Martha Spiers this month officially denied a request to redo a vote in a public session to remedy the illegal closed-door vote that retained for the past two seasons an equestrian coach convicted in January of four violations of state ethics laws.
On April 30, the Oregon Government Ethics Commission unanimously voted to mandate that Oregon City High School Equestrian Coach Angie Wacker pay $2,000 in fines for the violations of state laws related to prohibited uses of her official position and her failure to file written statements of personal economic interest in setting equestrian program fees.

Oregon government ethics commissioners have found that the coach of Oregon City High School s equestrian team since 2014 has been using her position to obtain financial benefits for her unregistered business.
State ethics commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 29 to determine that OCHS Equestrian Coach Angie Wacker violated state statutes regarding prohibited uses of her official position and failed to file her statements of economic interest as a public official. Ethics commissioners will later determine civil penalties up to $5,000 for each of Wacker s four law violations.

As a member of the Oregon City equestrian team my junior and senior years of high school (2015-17), I read with interest the article in the OC News last week about Coach Angie Wacker s state ethics violations and wanted to share my own story.
I fell off my horse while attending our first practice during Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) drill tryouts. It was nobody s fault but my own; I had forgotten to tighten my cinch before getting on.
