THE LAST CRANKIE, a new play written and directed by P.H. Lin, and developed by Cate Cammarata s Create Theater, will make its online debut as part of CreateTheater s Monday Night Reading Series on May 17, 2021 at 7pm EDT.
This is not a play about someone having a bad day. Rather it s a cautionary tale, told through a 19th century storytelling device known as a Crankie. This play is a wicked-smart fun, funny romp that imagines a post-apocalyptic society in which Creativity isn t valued and the very act of Imagining is endangered.

Los Angeles-based Echo Theater Company, dedicated to creating new work for the theater, has announced the names of seven playwrights who will participate in the company s 2021 Playwrights Lab.
Facilitated by co-directors Brian Otaño and Hannah Wolf, playwrights Amanda L. Andrei, Diana Burbano, June Carryl, Ricardo Perez Gonzalez, Hannah Kenah, Liza Powel O Brien and LaDarrion Williams will work together to develop new material that will be presented in LABFest, the LAB s festival of public readings at the end of the year.

(SUMMIT, NJ) Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre will present its annual Meet the Artist new play reading series on Wednesdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26. All readings will take place on Zoom at 7:00pm, and require advance registration. The new play reading series is a chance for the audience to participate in the development of new works, both to hear the plays read by professional actors and also to discuss the projects with the playwright, director and actors afterward. There will be an opportunity for the audience to provide feedback to the team after every performance.
