The connection was formed a year ago and a pickup truck loaded with firefighting equipment went from northwest New Jersey to Alabama.
But when Sussex County firefighter Hunter Space was contacted again by his new friends down South, this time it would be far more serious and the response far larger.

A crash Friday morning on Route 33 closed part of the highway and snarled traffic.
A van rollover on Route 33 South was reported a little after 10 a.m., just past the Freemansburg Avenue interchange in Bethlehem Township.
Nancy Run Fire Company reported they were informed there was a leaking nitrogen cylinder creating a hissing sound in the van. The leak was stopped, but it was not a nitrogen cylinder, they said.
